As it neared to the fourth quarter, our Milford mavericks were only hanging behind by a couple points. The players were fighting hard against the Hartland eagles, knowing one more touchdown was all they needed to take the win over Hartland.
Unfortunately, Milford was unsuccessful, and as the last seconds ran out on the clock, the scoreboard read “Milford, 33, Hartland, 35”. A hard loss to accept with such a close game, but the players are resolved that this won’t stop them!
“Although we lost, our offense still moved the ball up the middle very well, but our defense ran into some trouble,” Slot receiver Alex Puente said
Hartland rant the ball up the middle impressively, getting past their defense and causing them some difficulty.
“It just takes more practice,” said Puente.
The game wasn’t the only thing that was bringing the team down. It was devastating news to find out the junior varsity’s head coach Mike Fray was leaving a week before the season due to a new job offering. But according to one of the junior varsity’s coaches, Mike Petrucci, the boys took it fairly well.
“They are a great groups of kids and all have a good attitude,” Petrucci said. “The season has been going great!” Although they have only won one game, he said the scores have been really close and he’s proud of them.
Losing the head coach was hard on the team, but they are still fighting.
The friendship between the players really gives them the support they need. They are all good friends, which makes it easy when it comes to teamwork.
“The teamwork we do out on the field brings us closer together,” said Nic Miller. “I don’t know what I would do without them.”
The players don’t only have their teammates to lean on, but their fans as well. All the parents and students, in red and white in the stands were cheering on their mavericks! The cheerleaders on the side lines were putting their all into their cheers to keep the team pumped and positive!
Number 78, Brandon Marks, sure had a lot of spirit. He had some high energy, and did everything he could to not only pump up his teammates on the field and sidelines, but also the fans.
The team may have had a disappointing loss, but the players are ready for the next week!
“We’re just excited to go out there, play, and hopefully bring home our Mavericks a win!” Puente said. They are a determined team and they are putting the past behind them and focusing on the future, like any great team would do.
