Skyrim is meant to thrill and excite the imagination. This new game is a great first person or third person role playing game and from the makers of Fallout. With many fantasy elements making it similar to World of Warcraft, Skyrim is something you may think you have seen before, you haven’t. It provides endless entertainment with its many quests. This is definitely what it had done for me. It is hard not to get excited when just talking about this game, with its almost infinite possibilities in game play. The character you play as in Skyrim is created by you. There are 18 skills you can train your character in. You can be interested in making your character good at magic, of which there are 6 kinds to keep everyone interested. There is also 220 unlockable perks, upgrading your armor, weapons and magic skills, to even further individualize your character.
The story line in Skyrim takes place 200 years after its predecessor Oblivion, which are the 4th and 5th games in the Elder Scrolls series. The story is a main line of quests which take you to new places and cities across the map. Your character is one of the few survivors of a dragon attack at the beginning of the game, making you one of the most valuable resources to the Jarls (the leaders) of each city, seeing as you’re one of the only people who have survived a dragon attack and knowing how to defeat those dragons.
Early in the game you discover you are Dragonborn, which basically means you are a dragon in a human’s body. This ability allows you to use Shouts, which you learn through rocks with an ancient language on them and absorbing Dragon souls from the dragons you kill in the wild. Now you follow the commands of the Greybeards and go on to fight the evil dragon Alduin. It is a battle start to finish and has a ton of room to continue play even after completing the main story.
To continue playing after your final battle with evil there are factions you can join such as The Dark Brotherhood, a guild of assassins, and the Thieves Guild, where you get hired to steal things for people. You can continue to get quests throughout the game by talking to people you find and meet, but the quests you get depend on if people like you or not, which is a great addition to the game.
In the early stages of the game you are offered an opportunity to join either the Stormcloak Rebellion or the Imperial Army, which really got me hooked. You can either crush the rebellion as an Imperial soldier or go after the liberation of Skyrim as a member of the rebellion. You can fight and end the difficulty throughout Skyrim. Early in the game this is a great way to raise your level and get ready for the main story.
I was so excited when I heard the announcement of this game’s release and the game lived up to and exceeded my expectations.
Overall, Skyrim is one of the best games I have ever played. I have already spent more than 24 hours exploring Skyrim and it still makes me want to sit down and just keep going. Whenever I need to get up it has me thinking, “Just one more quest!” I feel this game is one of the best games to come out on the Xbox 360. The game also came out for PS3 and the computer. Skyrim was made to impress, and believe me, it did.
