Paranormal activity promises “it will mess you up for life”, especially during the last 15 minutes of the film. But many have said that it wasn’t as scary as it was portrayed.
This movie is a low-budget film that uses simple video cameras that rotate across the room to give it a realistic feeling. It is produced by Paramount Pictures and directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman.
The cameras in the movie watch over a family as they sleep and go through their daily activities. The third movie is based off the first and second movies. The first movie is based on a boyfriend and a girlfriend living in the home and they are haunted by a ghost and at the end the movie they are said to have disappeared and never have been found.
The second movie is based on a family of three with a dog. The wife in the second movie is the sister of the girl in the first movie. They have a baby and the demon terrorizes the whole family. It would be highly suggested that you see the first and second movies before seeing the third because it is based off the family history throughout the set of movies.
Paranormal Activity 3 takes place in 1998. Julie, the mother, and her Boyfriend, Dennis, live together with her kids Katie and Kristi. Kristi, the younger sibling, begins to interact with a demon or ghost named Toby. While Julie and Dennis are in bed, they are interrupted by an earthquake. Dennis, holding a camera, goes looking for the girls during the earthquake. The camera shows dust falling from the ceiling and then stops on a figure, when the figure moves dust falls.
Later in the movie while the girls are in the bedroom, Kristi wakes up and is talking to someone off camera before going back to bed. The next day Dennis questions who she was talking to and she tells him it was Toby. Throughout the movie, Dennis discovers different clues and finds hints as to why their family is being demonized.
Many people thought the movie wasn’t scary, only a little jumpy at some parts. The truth seemed to be stretched a lot; it was hard to believe.
“Don’t go see it. Wait for it to come out to DVD,” said Jessica Allen after seeing the movie one weekend. Even though it was said to be the better of the three movies, many still criticized it. Allen also said, “To me, it wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be.”
Overall, people who saw the movie either jumped to extreme like or dislike about it. There were not many in-between opinions. It depends on whether you get easily scared by movies or not. Many disliked Paranormal Activity 3 because they thought it was cheesy and unrealistic.
