Those fans who have seen “The Vow” and all the other love and drama movies may say that The Vow is a combination between “Dear John” and “The Notebook”. Similar characteristic are shown in both movies but in different styles.
Based on a true story, “The Vow”, directed by Michael Sucsy, captured reality and fantasy all in one. Paige, played by Rachel McAdams, suffered severe memory loss when she woke up from a coma. She could only remember her old past and not her new life with her husband Leo, played by Channing Tatum.
Channing Tatum, who also stared in the love story “Dear John”, felt the sensation to love and felt the pain of what it is like to love the one you love. In “Dear John”, he lost his love when he went off to war and returned to find that she was getting married.
Throughout the movie, Leo struggles with the fight to win back the love he once experienced with Paige. Before the accident, Paige cut her parents and family out of her life. However, they are the only life that she remembers and moves back in with them, leaving Leo and her life with him behind.
Rachel McAdams, who starred in “The Notebook”, had to find her path way in life. In “The Notebook”, she had to choose if she wanted a life with her first love who she never got over, or a man who she had grown to love.
Although Paige did not choose to lose her memory, she had to find her path way all over again by reliving her early adult years. She had to overcome the same obstacle as before, but she managed to regain her happiness.
If you are not a believer in fate, “The Vow” may change your mind. Life threw many challenges Paige and Leo’s way but their loved survived. They both gave up trying to have what the once had before but in the end somehow, they were brought back together.
The film showed that anything can happen in a split second even if one is one their way home from a date. You can’t control the outcomes of situations and even though one may fight for their memory again as much as Paige did or one may fight for love.
Corky jokes were made between Leo and Paige when it flashed back to their life together and mainly at the beginning of the movie. “The Vow” was not just a sappy chick flick with some comical relief it was also someone’s life and the hardships they had to encounter.
