The school musical Thoroughly Modern Millie is being shown at Milford High School in the CPA. It will be shown on Friday, Nov. 22nd at 7:00 pm and Saturday, Nov. 23rd at 1 pm. With their astounding actors and talented background dancers, the musical should be phenomenal, many of the performers say.
The story is about a 22-year-old girl, named Millie Dillmount, who came to New York to marry her boss for his money instead of his love. But she falls in love with a low-class New York citizen she met on the streets after getting mugged, losing her hat, scarf, purse and shoe. She stays in a hotel and meets a mysterious and evil woman named Mrs. Meers. She kidnaps young pretty girls and trades them in for a white slave trade in Hong Kong. So Millie and her new friends try to find out what Mrs. Meers is up to.
“We chose to use this play because there are a lot of women that want to be in the musical and we need a lot of them to be background dancers,” said Megan Weeks, the director of the musical. The main character, Millie Dillmount, is being played by Rachel Carreri. Weeks and Musical Instructor Mary Ann Lambrecht are the ones who came up with the decision to reenact this play. Weeks is the director of the acting and the story line. Lambrecht is the director of the musical and dancing portions of the play.
“The musical will have taken almost nine weeks to prepare for it,” Weeks said. The whole cast has been practicing for the play since Sept. 4, which was the first day of school.”
Students who are participating in the musical are excited to see their hard work come to fruition.
“Everyone that will be starring in the musical is very excited to be in it and can’t wait for it to actually show in November,” said Derek Engel, who will be mainly backstage being in charge of the fly lines but will also be on stage for a couple minutes as a singer and dancer.
“The musical is going to be a wonderful performance and everyone who is going to go see it will enjoy the whole play,” Engel said. “We have been putting full effort towards the production of the play to make it a spectacular performance from the cast and everyone else included.”
All the main leads had to try out to get the parts that they are now.
“It wasn’t that hard to get a part in the play, especially for the backstage crew,” said Engel. The play should be roughly 2 hours long. To purchase tickets or find out more information on the musical, please visit http://www.mhsperformingarts.com/.
