Back in early January, I saw the Oscar nominated film Into The Woods. The movie musical was introduced on Broadway in November of 1987. It was originally written by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. Into The Woods won several Tony Awards including best score, best book and best actress in a musical (Joanna Gleason). It has been remade so many times on stage, and now on the big screen it couldn’t be better.
As the result of the curse of a once-beautiful witch (Meryl Streep), a baker (James Corden) and his wife (Emily Blunt) are childless. Three days before the rise of a blue moon, they venture into the forest to find the ingredients that will reverse the spell and restore the witch’s beauty: a milk-white cow, hair as yellow as corn, a blood-red cape, and a slipper of gold. During their journey, they meet Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Prince (Chris Pine), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Rapunzel (Mackenzie Mauzy), and Jack (Daniel Huttlestone), each one on a quest to fulfill a wish.
This movie was incredibly well done. After seeing the movie, I was hooked. It had such a well rounded cast of characters and was made very nicely. The voices were spot on and of course Meryl Streep out did herself, again. She is such a versatile actress. It is a little over two hours long, but when you think its the end, it takes a whole new turn. During this movie, I was on the edge of my seat. It really showed what happens after the “happily ever after”. Its a movie for kids, teens and adults. A very magical and haunting movie. I loved it. I would rate this movie 5 out of 5 stars. Great film.
