Milford High School getting ready for the fall musical
Milford High School is busy getting ready for the fall musical, “How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.”
Described as a sarcastic commentary on corporate business, “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” is a story about a man named J. Pierrepont Finch who used to be a window washer. One day he finds a book about how to climb the corporate ladder. He then uses this book to cheat his way to the top of the business world.
“I’m excited to have the lead character,” says Nate Davis, who plays Finch. “I’ve had other large characters before, but this time I’m playing the lead ,which is cool.” Davis played the scarecrow in last year’s production of the “Wizard of Oz”, which sold out both nights last year.
The decision to do this play was made knowing they had more male actors than in previous years. It was also picked because it is a musical that can take on a large ensemble cast, said Mrs. Weeks, the theater director and an English teacher at Milford High School.
The only major concern regarding the play is the fact that this particular set has a lot of specialty engineering needed. “I’m hoping we have the right people to make that happen, we [need, use] all the help we can get ” said Weeks.
Although tryouts are over and the cast has been picked, it’s not too late to participate, Weeks said. Backstage crew members are still needed. Different backstage roles include stage crew, tech crew, hair and makeup, and many other jobs.
“In my opinion, it’s long hours, and it’s absolutely crazy,” said James Thomason, a senior who works the sound and lighting board, “but if you do start doing it, chances are you’ll fall in love with it.”
