Finding a New Binge on Netflix – Recommendations
October 28, 2015
It’s 12:30 a.m on a school night. You’ve been in bed for hours already, but sleep is not the priority. You have to wake up for school in close to 5 hours, but the next episode is already loading. Why waste time on sleep at this point? Think about all the episodes you could get in tonight!
If this has ever been you, then you understand one of the main struggles of Netflix binging. However this is not the only struggle.
What happens when you run out of things to watch? If this is the case you may currently be suffering from a condition relating to binging, one that I like to call “Netflix-block.” (It’s like writer’s block but with less serious consequences.) However, this can still be quite the struggle for many bingers, including myself.
Sometimes it’s hard to go in blind with a new show, because if you plan on investing hours on a binge, you want it to be worth it. Being one of these people myself, the following are some shows that I feel are worth hours of binging.
First, for those like me who have seen every episode of Friends many times but are still left wanting more, I would recommend: How I Met Your Mother. This comedy has many similar aspects to the 90s hit Friends, centering on a group of friends in their thirties living in New York and all of their adventures together. Another positive about this show is that it is 9 seasons long, so it will keep you occupied for quite a while.
Another show I would recommend for those who love Friends, is New Girl. This is a cute comedy that also focuses on a group of friends living together, but with a bit of a twist. Jessica Day, an elementary school teacher is on an apartment search after a bad break-up. Somehow she ends up moving in with three men her age, and although they are at first annoyed with Jess, the guys learn to love her. This show is hilarious, and easy to watch. The only downside is that it is very current, so it is still airing and therefore you have to wait for new seasons to be published on Netflix.
Another one of my favorites that I would even consider a Netflix classic is Lost. This drama is a bit older, but you wouldn’t notice once you get into it. Lost focuses on a group of passengers from a commercial flight that crash on a deserted island. Over time you learn their backstories, and find that the passengers are more connected than they originally know. There are so many plot twists and cliffhangers in this show that it’s impossible to only watch a single episode in one sitting. This has got to be one of the easiest shows to binge watch on the entire site, and I recommend it to anyone who loves a good adventure, mystery or drama.
You may have heard of theses hit shows, and you might have already seen them, so what about something less known? In this case I recommend Alias. Once again it is a bit older, (originally airing in 2001) but if you enjoy action and adventure or high speed spy movies, this is the show for you. Alias focuses on a college student named Sydney Bristow, who is approached by a spy agency, and proceeds to live a double life that her loved ones are unaware of. However, she comes to find that her new job may put her family and friends at more risk than she thought.
My final recommendation is Prison Break. In this action-packed series, the suspense does not stop until the very end. It was impossible to accomplish anything while watching this show, because with a cliffhanger at the end of every episode, you cannot step away. This show centers on an intelligent architect named Michael Schofield, whose brother Lincoln Burrows is sitting on death row. Michael believe his brother is innocent, but Lincoln is running out of options and time. So, Michael then takes matters into his own hands. This show has ended, however, the demand for it to continue may force them to bring it back. If you enjoy intense shows like The Walking Dead, this is the series for you.
These are simply a few suggestions from a fellow Netflix binger. Of the many Netflix shows I have completed thus far, these previously mentioned shows were the most enjoyable and easiest to watch. If you’re looking for a show that will keep you up night after night for binge after binge, these are absolutely the shows for you. Bingers be warned.
