10 Cloverfield Lane provides suspense and excitement for audiences

10 Cloverfield lane starts with Michelle (Margaret Elizabeth Winstead) having a violent collision with another vehicle in rural Louisiana.

She wakes up underneath a farmhouse, where she is safe in a Doomsday bunker built by Howard, the man who rescued her from her “inevitable” death.  Joining the pair is one of Howard’s neighbors, Emmett, who knew about the bunker and made it just in time before he was killed by the war going on outside.

Howard proves that group will be safe from the chemically polluted air that is deadly to any living thing outside, but as the group starts making the bunker their home, things start to appear a bit different from what they seem.

Produced by J.J. Abrams, 10 Cloverfield Lane provided the audience with suspenseful scenes and jaw dropping plot twists. In an almost completely full theatre, some moments were so intense that the crowd was dead silent, all eating, slurpee shaking and even light chatter came to an abrupt halt because of the insanity on screen.

There were only a few noticeable mistakes, such as the time in the car and the time on Michelle’s phone not matching which was pointed out on IMDB. But the mistakes are so minor that they wouldn’t distract from the movie at all. The biggest issue in the film was that the bunker was underground in rural Louisiana, which would be literally impossible to build due to the water table being so high.

It was easy to become attached to the characters in 10 Cloverfield Lane. The actors gave their characters so much emotion and depth, they created a sensation that they were real people with unique personalities. Some suspenseful scenes were a bit difficult to take seriously because of John Goodman, immediately recognizable as the plump and happy father in Roseanne, playing a austere Doomsday prepper. The dark humor and serious nature of the movie is quite a change from Goodman’s usual role. However, his personality adds a little bit of comedic relief after some of the more suspenseful moments, making the film feel even more genre-less.

The movie has action, a little bit of romance, and scenes that would make all horror lovers feel bubbly inside. Despite having a seemingly rushed and cheesy ending, the movie still deserves high ratings and plenty of views.
