On Friday, April 22, 60 musicians from the Milford High School band took a trip to see the DSO, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. The Milford Band members have attended annually the last four years.
The orchestra’s first concert was held on Monday, Dec. 19, 1887 at the Detroit Opera House and it is still considered one of the best band’s in the country.
MHS students were seated on the main floor.
“Many say that, ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’ and the same is true when you see a live performance,” said Ms. Sare.
The DSO performed the Overture to Don Giovanni by Mozart and The Planets by Gustav Holst.
“Holst is a very important composer for band students to know. We frequently perform his First Suite and Second Suite for Military Band,” said Ms.Sare.
Students were excited to witness the professional group.
“I really enjoyed the performances. It was very professional and fun to watch,” said Anjeanelette Maxwell.
Sare said this is an opportunity for students to learn by watching the best.
“When our musicians see and hear the professionals on stage, they learn so much about the same things we work on in rehearsals every day,” said Ms.Sare.
