10.) Hocus Pocus
Released in 1993, Hocus Pocus is no doubt a classic. The movie starts with two kids, Max and Dani, moving to a new town, Salem, Massachusetts. In the midst of being the new kids, they made a friend named Allison. She tells them about 3 witches that use to live in the town’s famous haunted house and the basic scary story to go along with it. Then, by accident, Max releases the three witches. With help from a talking cat, the kids have to stop them before they become immortal.
9.) Coraline
Coraline was first came to the public as a book written by Neil Gaiman in 2002. Later the movie went into theaters in February of 2009. Coraline is about a little girl who moves into a new house and finds a door that leads her into a parallel universe of her own life. She thinks this new world is better for her until they want her to stay forever. Coraline then has to do everything she can to get back to her real family.
8.) The Corpse Bride
This Tim Burton classic is definitely one to watch this Halloween. The movie starts with a nervous groom-to-be, Victor, messes up his wedding rehearsal and goes to the forest to practice his vows. While going over his lines, he accidentally wakes up a bride from the dead. She then drags him into the land of the dead, where she forces him into marriage. Victor then has to then figure out a way to get back to the real world to marry his real bride,Victoria, before she marries the awful Lord Barkis.
7.) Mostly Ghostly
This basic ghost story beings with introducing a young magician wannabe, Max Doyle. While practicing his tricks and skills, he meets two ghost kids,Nicky and Tara, haunting his basement. Max finds out they’re trying to find eternal rest. He tells them that he will help them out if they help him get the most popular girl in school, Traci, to like him. They agree and in the midst of doing so, they release an evil spirit, Phears. Now, the three have to join together to stop him before he ruins Halloween.
6.) The Book of Life
The Book of Life is an animated movie revolving around the Mexican holiday, The Day of the Dead. Although it technically isn’t a Halloween movie, it still is a must see. The movie starts with a childhood best friends, Maria, Manolo, and Joaquin goofing around and causing mischief. When they grow up, Maria returns and Joaquin and Manolo fight constantly for her hand in marriage. But due to a bet made between husband-wife deities about the lovers, Manolo dies. He then has to find a way out of the Land of the Remembered and back to the living world.
5) The Nightmare before Christmas
Another Tim Burton classic. This movie is about a skeleton, Jack, who is the Pumpkin king of Halloweentown. After years of the same routine of scaring people in his world, he decided he was bored with it. One day, he wanders off into the woods and comes across a strange new place called Christmastown. He instantly falls in love it and hatches a plan to take over Christmastown by kidnapping Santa and taking over his job. Jack soon realizes that he had bigger shoes to fill than he thought.
4) Monster House
Three kids, DJ, Chowder, and Jenny, are suspicious the old man living across the street and the weird things going on with his house. They think his house is alive and evil. But of course, no adult believes them. They decide to take matters into their own hands figure out what’s really going on in that house. After the old man is sent to the hospital because of heart attack, the kids take advantage of the empty house and try to figure out the real mystery behind it all.
3) Halloweentown
A young girl, Marnie, gets in an argument with her mother, Gwen, over why her and her siblings, Dylan and Sophie, can’t go out for halloween. Then their aunt, Aggie, stops by for a surprise visit. Aggie wants to start training Marnie as a witch before she loses her potential power. But she has another reason for visiting. There’s an evil spirit haunting Halloweentown and Aggie needs all the help she can get to stop it.
2) The Addams Family
When Gomez Addams missing brother, Fester, comes home after 25 years, Gomez is more than happy to see him. But Morticia grows suspicious when the man claiming to be Fester can’t recall memories from his childhood. The family soon discovers that the man is just trying to steal the family fortune when they are evicted from their house. Gomez then has to challenge Fester to get everything back.

This movie is a about a scary story book coming to life. Widow, Amelia, is still haunted by the tragic death of husband who died in a car accident. It also doesn’t help that her 6-year-old son,Sam, is acting strange. He starts believing in imaginary things, especially monsters. One night, Sam asks Amelia to read him a story called Mister Babadook. Amelia is creeped out by the story but her son believes he is real. Soon, weird and strange things start happening. Amelia realizes the babadook is real and has to do everything she can to make the monster leave her and her son alone.
