Netflix’s “Outer Banks” has been on the rise since its first season in 2020. Being one of Netflix’s most watched shows in quarantine, it has become a fan favorite in the seasons that followed. The show stars characters from both sides of the island of Outer Banks, NC. ‘The Cut’, home to the pogues, and ‘Figure 8’, home to the kooks. The divide between the groups has grown for generations, and separates what is the “poor side” and “rich side”. This is where they chase treasure and search for the main character, John B’s father. Throughout the seasons they encounter many challenges, face heartbreak, confront denial, and fall in love. The characters develop through the obstacles they face and become bigger than just finding the gold.
Part one of Season four was released on Oct. 7. Usually, this show gets released with 10 episodes all together, but this year Netflix decided to split the parts up into two. Leaving the season on a huge cliffhanger, the fourth season focuses on a new treasure, black beard. While the search for the Royal Merchant was their task for many seasons, after handling that situation, losing loved ones, and almost losing themselves, the pogues find themselves on a new hunt.
This season is also filled with love, and new relationships amongst characters, Sarah and John B, now having been together for the entirety of the show, continue their relationship and even make a pledge to get married to each other once they get their money back. However, new relationships are on the rise, pogues Kie and JJ are now together, as well as Pope and Cleo. These couples have fans excited to see what is to come in part two. Although Cleo is a new addition to the group, she has been a strong, loyal asset to their journey. At the end of part one, the show lets us in on an underlying secret of JJ and his fathers relationship. Fans seem to think that the rest of this season is going to be all about JJ.
As the seasons continue on, the war of the pogues vs kooks has never died. John B and Topper have it out many times, as they do in every other season, however, no peace has been granted to either side of the island.
Netflix has been working hard to advertise and see this new season in a fun and exciting way, even announcing an OBX tour called ‘Poguelandia’. The cast also did this for season three, however on for a day, this year’s tour travels around the US and gives fans a taste of what Poguelandia really is, not to mention the consistency the OBX team has with its social media, and promotion to appeal for its audience.
No matter what time of year it is, for most high school students, when the new season of Outer Banks comes out, for a few days it turns into summer again. MHS students love this series and look forward to seeing the rest of the season.
Senior Taegen Skatzka explains, “I think this season is way better than the last one, each scene leaves me so curious for more, I watched it all in one sitting,” she continues on by stating, “OBX is a show that’s so nostalgic from 2020 for me, and every season I love it even more. I also love JJ and Kie”.
From 4 high schoolers on the hunt for treasure, to 6 young adults who gave up everything for each other, the group of Sarah, John B, JJ, Kie, Pope, and Cleo continue the fight for their lives to find out the truth. Season 4 part 2 of OBX comes out Nov. 7th, so tune into Netflix to watch these amazing characters reveal even more about their past and the treasure at hand.
