There are new faces from Germany, Spain, China, and Japan this year at Milford high school. Along with the more then 1,000 returning students and 400 incoming freshmen there are six foreign exchange students that into a brand new country and school. Here is a look at each students background and view of there stay so far.
Sophie Stark
Where are you from? Germany
How was the adjustment? It was quite easy it took some time to get used to the slang and language.
Is there any food we have here in America and not in Germany? Peanut butter and I like it.
How is the school different? We have no sports, no after school activities and the teachers switch classes, not us.
How many languages do you speak? 3, French, English, and German
Do you plan on playing any sports? I run cross country and I want to try out for basketball.

Is there anything that is generally different about America? The proportions are a lot larger and America has a lot more fast food.

Was it hard to understand people when you first came to America? No it was quite easy to get used to but a lot of people have a hard time understanding me.
Are there any major differences you see in people in America? Your style here is a lot different, we dress a little more modern.

What’s different about America than Japan? “The sky is very beautiful.” The sky in Japan is a lot more foggy and here its so clear.
What sports do you play in Japan? Dance
Do you have a favorite place to eat in America? Taco Bell

Do you like it in America so far? Yes, the school and city is very pretty
Is there anything different about America than Germany? There is a lot more fast food.
Are there any stereotypes of Americans? “I thought Americans were fat, but you’re all so skinny.”
Do you have any hobbies? Piano
Are there any school differences here than in Japan? Their summer is only 6 weeks long.

Do you want to play any sports? I might try out for the soccer team.
Is there anything different about America than Germany? Every thing is bigger, even the food.
Do you have any plans after high school? I want to be a sports editor.
Do you like school so far? School is fun, I like all my teachers. They’re really nice.

Is there anything different about America than Spain? Yes one I noticed was there is no peanut butter in Spain we have Nutella. But there are not very many diffences.
Do you play any sports here in America? Soccer, but the rules are a lot different.
Do you have a favorite class? Spanish “Having Spanish class is a nice break.”
Did you have a hard time understanding the language and our accent? No, not really it was quite easy to adapt.
