Gangster Squad
Gangster Squad will be a movie to remember for viewers who like action movies. Gangster Squad hosts many well-known actors such as Sean Penn Ryan Grosling, and Emma Stone, all major actors who are well known in the movie world. Gangster Squad received about a 70 percent approval rate according to IMBD.com, a commonly used movie review website.
Gangster Squad takes place in Los Angeles nearing the end of the 1940s, and Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn), has a tight grip on the city. Cohens dream was to have overall power in the city of Los Angeles, and his goals were almost complete. Cohen used his power and money to pay off politicians and police departments; however, one police chief had enough. Being fed up with Cohens power, police chief Parker decides to make a secret force in which to take down Cohens built empire. Chief Parker selects Sgt. John O’Mara, a World War Two vet to take charge in forming a group to take down Mickey Cohen. After O’Mara chooses his four group members, they begin destroying Cohens shops, homes, cars, and anything that could be of value to assist in Cohens growing power.
Critic’s main issue with Gangster Squad was the somewhat “corny acting” that was displayed throughout the film. Another main issue was for some people was how violent the movie was, often showing scenes with intense blood and violence. “Gangster Squad was too much for me” began Becky LaPointe a student at OCC. “The scenes were very gory and I just couldn’t get used to it.” Gangster Squad is not for people who are bothered by blood and gore, however people who aren’t bothered by it would have no problem watching this movie. Gangster Squad was more liked by male audiences, mainly because of the action scenes males tend to like.
Gangster squad should be recommended to anyone who enjoys action, and should not be recommended to anybody who is bothered by blood and gore. Gangster Squad was a great movie in my opinion, however my advice to readers would be to wait for the movie to come onto DVD instead of over paying at theaters. The acting is corny, but the action scenes make up it making Gangster Squad a very good movie and a recommended movie to watch in 2013.
