America is abundant with beautiful places to visit during Spring Break. Each location offers a different and exciting adventure. However, some of them may be more dangerous than you think.

According to Budgettravel.com, one of the most dangerous vacation spots is Canyonlands National Park. Located in Utah, which offers beautiful desert scenery and stunning rock formations. But the park also has hiking trails that are closer to mazes, with temperatures reaching around 110°F.

Rescue missions can take around three days, and during that time if you run out of water, the chances of finding water is pretty low. This place is also where the movie 127 days takes place, a story of Aron Ralston who was stuck between a rock for 5 days, and managed to get out of the park with major dehydration and only one arm.

Another dangerous vacation spot is Volusia County, Florida. USA Today shows that the state brings in more than 26.3 million out-of-state visitors from January to April making the beaches a popular spot for spring break. However, Volusia County has the largest number of shark attacks in the world.

Despite the numerous cases of shark attacks, none of them have resulted in a fatality. Most of the sharks are small, and mainly cause minor injuries. Beach goers should be cautious if swimming in Volusia’s beaches.

And finally, ranking number one as one of America’s most dangerous cities is East St. Louis. Neighborhoodscout.com shows that there is around 7 robberies for every 186 people in the region.

The city, starting as a main hub for transportation in the Midwest, was established in 1865. The area was an industrial center and is home to old, historical buildings, but with high crime rates and 143 crimes per square mile, many of the buildings are wasting away, causing even lower tourist rates.

When traveling for spring break, many places may be more dangerous than what meets the eye. Always be sure to have a good knowledge of the area you’re going into, bring the necessary supplies for your trip and remember emergency cash and even a paper map. Be sure to stay safe but have a fun and adventurous spring break!
