Seniors start futures on Oakland Community College field trip

Snow days may have slowed things down a bit, but that didn’t stop a group of Milford and Lakeland seniors from visiting Oakland Community College on Friday, March 4.

The students were originally supposed to go on the trip on Wednesday March 2, but due to snow days, ended up combining trips with the Lakeland students last week.

They received a tour of the campus along with a lot of information on where to register, financial aid, how to buy books, and free on-campus tutoring.

After the tour, they took their placement exams. Each student planning to attend OCC must take an English, Reading and Math exam in order to be placed in the correct class.

Along with free pizza, the school gave information on how to register for classes, contacting counselors and qualifying for advanced classes.

Mrs. Granroth, who leads the Career Center, planned this trip so students could have the chance to see the campus, get the information they need, and take the exams they are required to take all in one day.

The trip made it easy for the students to do everything they have to do without having to make separate appointments and to get all of their questions answered, so registering for classes is easy, without headaches.

Seniors who went on this trip got a leg-up for school next year. All students who went on the trip are officially enrolled in OCC and working on their class schedules.

This trip gave them all of the information they will need to register and attend classes at OCC, as well as information on how to transfer to other schools after finishing their prerequisites for university.

Multiple seniors will be attending OCC for a degree in nursing and other full degrees the college offers.
