Math Students to London
October 17, 2016
How would you like to visit the Eiffel Tower or Big Ben this spring with friends? Student’s in select math classes have the opportunity to travel to Europe for this upcoming Spring Break. These students will travel to Paris and London for a total of 8 days.
The trip will take place March 29 to April 5, while spring break is April 1 to April 9. This trip is open to students in higher level math classes: precalculus, honors precalculus, calculus, AP statistics and probability, and AP calculus. It also open to students at Lakeland High School.
These classes were selected for a reason, according to Mrs. Beasley, who is organizing the trip.
“I thought that this trip would encourage students to take higher level math courses and challenge themselves,” Beasley stated, “It would be seen as an incentive for students to want to be successful in math.”
The cost for the trip sums to a total of $2,832.00. This includes the tour, round trip airfare, hotel stay, and some meals. There are three different investment plans: full payment, monthly plan, and a 4-step manual plan. The signup cut off date is January 1, 2017. For those concerned with this price, fundraising is an option.
These math students will spend 4 days each in both Paris and London. Each city has one day dedicated to math, including a visit to several science and math museums.
“I am most excited to visit Paris and go to the Eiffel Tower, especially the top of it”, Beasley noted. The other days of the trip consist of sight-seeing and seeing the city.
As of now, there are only a few students signed up, therefore Beasley is the only current chaperon. The group will stick together and stay with the tour guide at all times. However, if more people sign up, Business Teacher Dave Ehrlich will travel as well.
One of the students is junior Jade Chynoweth, who signed up with a couple friends.
“I am definitely most excited for sightseeing, especially the eiffel tower because I have always dreamt of visiting Paris” Chynoweth beamed. Other students are also looking forward to the allure of the big cities in Europe.
The choice of traveling to Europe was voted by students last year in Beasley’s classes. This is the first year this trip is planned, and hopefully it can continue.
