It’s audition time again! Milford’s theater company is holding open auditions for the winter play “Puffs” on December 12th.
The audition process is a little different from years past, so this information is helpful for not only new people, but also people who have auditioned before. To start, on Dec. 12 from 7:00-9:30 are open auditions for anyone to come to.
In order to audition, all auditionees have to fill out the audition form online. This form asks about contact information, tee-shirt sizes, and preferred roles. While the role you get isn’t guaranteed, this gives the director, Megan Weeks, a chance to see who you see yourself as.
In the audition packet, there are a series of monologues, or paragraphs that the different characters perform, and auditionees can pick any two to perform. These MUST BE MEMORIZED in order to audition. After performing your monologue, you will be asked to have some character snippets, which have to be prepared, but not memorized.
Having these prepared means looking at them and thinking about how this character would say it. It will show how diverse you are as an actor, and allows Weeks to see how quickly you can shift between characters, as there will be some people cast as multiple diverse roles in the show.
After auditioning, everyone is free to leave. By 10:30, there will be a list of people that they want to see for callbacks. This is a new thing this year. If your name isn’t on the callbacks lost, you are not going to be on the final cast list.
Callbacks are Dec. 13 from 6-8 pm. This will be an opportunity for the directors to play with some different people in different scenes to see how they act together, and to see each auditionee’s improv abilities.
The final cast list will be posted by 11pm on Dec. 13, and there will be cuts after callbacks. The first cast meeting will be on Dec. 14th. All this information can be found on http://www.mhsperformingarts.com/. Come audition! The Puffs need you!
