Numerous members of the Milford Community spread joy around the holidays with extravagant Christmas displays. Many families find fulfillment in putting up lights, it helps them get into the holiday spirit, and connect.
Kate Kelly, a junior at Milford High School, enjoys going out to take in all of the lights in her community. “My family loves to drive through our neighborhood to see all the lights and inflatable Christmas lawn decor,” stated Kelly. This is a holiday must for the Kelly family.
Walking along the street to view the lights around Christmas time provides holiday cheer and a great way to spend quality time with those you love. For most families that put up lights, it’s a tradition that can’t be missed.
The idea of hanging lights to celebrate the holiday season goes back to the 1880s and is still widely considered a holiday staple today. “It originated from Germany and quickly spread to other European countries,” stated Christmas Light Source, a website dedicated to educating readers on the history of all things Christmas.
As the holidays have concluded and people have started to settle into the new year, these displays full of history and fun are coming down, but the joy they produced still lingers within families in this community.
