With major sections of the school closed, teachers changing their classrooms mid year and workers swarming the building, the last two years have been a time of major change as renovations continued.
After two years, what improvements are complete, and what do we have to look forward to? As many students last year may recall, the front entrance was under construction for the better half of the school year. Other changes include entire hallways and classrooms repainted and remodeled, with new furniture, new ceiling tiles, and new flooring. The main office is now complete, located on the left after the front entrance. The whole cafeteria was also repainted and looks better than ever.
There have also been many changes to Milford’s athletic areas. The football field had new turf and bleachers installed. There is a new and freshly painted look to nearly every area of the building.
Milford High School Principal Kevin McKenna explained that there were many smaller details that the students may not have noticed. One example being the new asphalt, as many years ago people would remember big potholes in the cement up and down the boulevard, and anyone that participates in band will be happy to know that new lighting has been put into the band room.
When asked about what changes will be made in the future, Mr. McKenna said. “The future piece is just going to be maintaining things,” he said. “That’s the part people need.”
We can also look forward to the science and art section being remodeled and improved in the distant future. The campus will also be getting a huge update, as there will be a new middle school here, starting construction in early 2026.
When asked about what his experience was like as a freshman with all of the construction, sophomore Andrew Sproull stated. “Honestly it was very stressful. Everyday I would wake up and wondering what classes would be moved, or what stairwells would be closed.”
There is no doubt that in the following years, we will see some immense changes around campus, and many of which we have reason to look forward to, but when will the school truly be done with the construction? “I don’t know if it’s ever going to be done,” He said. McKenna stays true to the fact that there will always be work that needs to be done around the school.
