As we begin sliding into winter and the holiday season, most people will find themselves venturing up north to ski resorts. Michigan is home to over 40 different ski resorts. Let’s look at the most well known and popular ones.
Boyne Mountain Resort is a great place to head up north. Boyne Mountain Resort is located in Boyne Falls, Mi. It has over 400 acres of ski hills to ski on. They also have hills for people of all ages and skill levels. “I loved it because they kept the runs in great condition and the lighting at night was amazing,” said senior Macy Jenkins. Not only does it offer good skiing and snowboarding, but it has other attractions as well. It has the Avalanche Bay Waterpark and Arcade, the Sky-bridge which is open in the summer, and a Golf Course. There are hotels, suites, condos, and cab-ins available to rent in the resort as well.
The Highlands, located in Harbor Springs, Mi, is another great place to check out. It has over 50 runs to choose from and is just 30 minutes north of Boyne Mountain Resort. There are also Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing trails, along with a place to tube. There are condos and cabins available for rental right by the mountain.
Crystal Mountain, located in Benzie County, Mi, is a popular resort. It has over 55 runs to choose from for people of all ages and skill levels. It is also a great place to night ski. It also has a great restaurant right off of one of the hills that has outdoor seating. They also have trails for snowshoeing and ice rinks for ice skating. There are also plenty of lodges in and around the resort.
Nubs Nob is another top ski resort, located in Emmet County, Mi. “Nubs Nob is super family friendly and their food is great,” Junior Lauren Bradley says. “They also always keep their runs in the best condition for skiing and snowboarding.” They have consistently been in the top in terms of tending to their ski hills. They also have great moguls for experienced skiers. There is a restaurant right off of the hills as well which includes outdoor seating. Also, if there are kids younger than 8, they ski for free. In terms of lodging, there are cabins and condos available in and around the resort.
