With the holiday season quickly approaching, Milford High School students have a plethora of blessings to be thankful for this year. From future aspirations to people involved in their everyday lives, students can look back on 2024 with immense gratitude.
Focusing on the positive aspects of life is important because it helps people stay present in the moment and promotes self-improvement.
MHS junior Noelle Heymoss is one student who has had the opportunity to build strong relationships this year. “I’m most thankful for all of my family and the great friendships I have,” said Heymoss. As the stereotypical heavy workload of junior year has set in, she’s been consistently supported by those around her and has shared both the good and bad moments with the people she loves. Building strong friendships over the past year has allowed Heymoss to enjoy her time outside of the classroom and create unforgettable memories.
Similarly, senior Grace Mead is thankful for her family, specifically her two-year-old niece Kennedy. “I never knew I could love someone so much until she was born,” said Mead. She has had the opportunity to watch her niece learn gentleness and love over the past year. Mead is beyond thankful that she is able to see Kennedy so often, and be so present in her life. “Even at just two, she’s one of the kindest people I know,” she said. Her niece has left an irreplaceable mark on her life, and she wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Comparably, senior Aleah Partyka is eternally grateful for her faith and family. While religion isn’t part of everybody’s life, it’s at the center of Partyka’s. “I would not be here without it,” she said. Over the past few years, her faith has grown stronger with the help of her family. “They push me to be a better person every day,” she stated. While putting in the work to become a better version of herself, Partyka is thankful for both the ups and downs she’s had the gift of navigating this year.
While family and friends are an important part of this time of year, it’s also fun to acknowledge the excitement surrounding more personal aspects of life. Senior Kendall Hefke is thankful that she will be graduating in just seven months. “I can’t wait for college- I’m going far away and starting fresh,” stated Hefke. She plans to attend Northern Michigan University to study cosmetology next fall, and is eager for the new beginnings awaiting her in Marquette.
As the holidays quickly pass, take a moment to appreciate the people and things that make you excited to wake up each day. Tell the important people in your life how much they impact you, and remember to be thankful for the little moments that often go overlooked.
