A time of gratitude, togetherness and plenty of love—Thanksgiving is the time of year where people connect with family and enjoy the holiday while filling up with a plethora of food and engaging in family traditions. When asked, many around the family table will say they are thankful for their friends, which can be seen through the tradition of Friendsgiving.
With busy schedules, these breaks around the holidays are vital, allowing for a time of calm and joy with friends.
Most students who participated in Friendsgiving celebrated it the weekend before the holiday, but some got to experience the holiday with their classmates. Milford’s Leadership classes hosted feasts with the help of a signup genius and teamwork. Third hour student Grace Mead stated, “It was really cool that we all combined all the tables to create a big table to eat all together.” Another third hour student Kaitlyn Williamson emphasized, “Everyone came together as a big group to celebrate the holiday about loved ones.” Similarly, 5th hour student Kaitlynn Elkins exclaimed, “it was really fun how we all came together and we celebrated something that everyone loves- food and coming together” Her classmate Savannah Carnaghi agreed. “The environment was very fun and inviting; it was fun to get to celebrate all together before we went on break.” Katie McDonald, another fifth hour student, who made a fruit turkey, enjoyed the festivities. .“It was really fun and there were a lot of people who brought food and we all had nice contributions to the meal.” Just by each person bringing one small thing, the spread of food started to assemble.
With food at the table and friends nearby the holiday truly shines as each student gets to sit by the ones they are thankful and spend needed time together. Outside of school student Lilly Sharrak had her own friendsgiving with friends and some family. “I love seeing my family but sometimes you want to have fun with your friends.” Sharrak stated that she goes to see her brother’s spring break crew, so “the college kids coming home and hanging out with us makes me happy.” What seems like a small thing can leave a large impact on others.
