Milford High School welcomed four new teachers to the staff this year: Mrs. Ewing, Mr. Calvetti, Mrs. Glynn, Mrs. Morelli.
Though each teacher has a unique background and subject of expertise, they all hope to relate to students and help them get the most out of their learning experience.
This is Ewing’s first teaching job, but she did complete her student teaching right here at MHS with Mrs. Robins and Mr. McGrath.
Ewing had a great first week of school, “The kids welcomed me very well,” she said.
As the school year continues, she hopes to teach students to appreciate the online programs because the number of high schools and colleges using them only continues to rise. “It is the way of the future”, she said.
Ewing enjoys teaching at the high school level, “I can relate to the students and understand their frustration”, she said.
Ewing has a degree in secondary social studies and political science, both of which she earned at MSU.
Outside of school, you can often find her with her family and friends as well as at many MHS football games.
Calvetti teaches more than 10 different e2020 courses here at Milford High School.
His main goal is to support students and also make sure that they are completing their courses on time.
He is getting students more interested in his class by trying to relate to them. “If you can relate to the students you can help them better understand problems of questions they might have”, said Calvetti.
Teaching is nothing new for Calvetti. He has also taught in Southwest Detroit and Ann Arbor.
His first week at MHS was outstanding, “This is a great place to be,” said Calvetti.
Calvetti has a bachelor’s degree in social studies with a minor in history and classic literature, and a master’s degree in library and information services. When Calvetti isn’t in room 505 you can find him at every Michigan football game and at many Detroit Tigers games.
Glynn, a special education teacher, is also new to MHS this year. However, she has worked in the Huron Valley School District for the past five years.
This is her first time teaching at the high school level and she is really excited to be working with older students. “It’s a new challenge to me,” said Glynn.
Glynn teaches the students real world skills “Daily activities include a lot of shopping and cooking,” she said.
Her degree is in special education and cognitive impairment, however, she is currently working on her master’s in autism spectrum disorder.
Aside from teaching, Glynn loves to play guitar with her kids and any outdoor activities such as hiking.
Additionally, MHS welcomed Morelli, who works in the special education department. She has been in the education field for the past 13 years; teaching for five years at Highland Elementary and eight years at Muir Middle School.
She has received her bachelor’s degree in special education and her master’s degree in administration.
Morelli said that her first week was exciting, chaotic and fun.
She helps with various task in special eduction department, include working with schedules.
Morelli especially enjoys the high school level, “you can definitely relate to the students,” she said.
When Morelli isn’t here at Milford High School you can find her spending time with family or doing many outdoor activities including, hiking and soccer.
Milford High School is pleased to have these new teachers join the staff this year and hope they enjoy their first year.
