Since March 9th, 1959 this blonde doll has been manufactured in many countries and have been sold in numerous stores. That being said, it can be inferred that the doll has had many upgrades and or additions to its collections. A Barbie doll, while changing career and social class, still is famous for its extremely thin waist and long legs, but that is soon to change as the brand Barbie launches its new campaign in which the dolls have many different types of realistic shapes and sizes in hopes to spread body positivity. Many photos have been released from the brand, including Barbie dolls with curves and others with more of a petite structure. Barbie also has expanded the options of race and height so young girls can find dolls that look just like them. This is honestly a beautiful thing and is about time it happened, I remember walking through my local Meijer sitting in the shopping cart. My eyes were always filled with joy and excitement because when I was growing up, going out means getting a new doll. Although I played with many barbies growing up as I expanded my childhood collection, I had always wondered why no Barbies looked like me. I was a girl that was tall, with olive skin and a thicker waist, Barbie was about the opposite of that and she was considered ‘beautiful’ so I thought I was not. This was obviously false, as people LOVE this new promotional campaign. For generations to come, playing with dolls will forever be changed in a positive way. All the dolls really come to show is, diversity is truly beautiful.
