Server’s mistreatment shows lack of acceptance for those who are not ‘normal’

Individuality makes the world interesting place for us to live, love and learn. However, it is shown in many scenarios that the general public views differences as a negative concept and does not see the positive impact they can have on our society.
In Des Moines, Iowa, Taelor Beeck is a pink-haired, caucasian female waitress who works at a restaurant called Zombie Burger, a burger shop themed to honor movies and creatures of the dead through meals like the 28 Days Later Burger. While working,Beeck deals with many horror lovers and foodies on the daily basis. However, one customer stood out after leaving a note on the bill of $17.36. The customer decided not to tip Beeck because as the customer puts it, “tips are only for normal looking people.”
According to an interview by Fox News, Beeck is quoted describing, “a burning anger inside of me” after the situation took place.
Beeck later goes on to add, “I mean, I can’t pay my bills if people don’t tip me.”Servers make their salary based upon their tips than any other form of payment making them extremely important as the minimum wage for servers is only $2.13
This specific situation proves how individuality can tear us apart instead of bringing us together, but from the same interview on Fox News, the resteraunt Zombie Burger has and will always to support their waitress as they said,“We believe that Zombie Burger is a place that celebrates individuality. We stand by our staff. We also believe that our customers enjoy Zombie Burger because it is a wonderfully unique place and that includes the team members. We are in 100% support of our staff. And we’re confident that our customers will be as well. She is an example of a great team member and we are standing by her.”
Although many may tear down others for their differences, remember that differences are not flaws and are what make the world such an amazing and interesting place.
