Milford vs Lakeland
The rivalry between Lakeland and Milford High School has been around for many years, but why? People say its because if how close the two schools are in distance, and some say its almost just natural because they came into high school with the rivalry already there.
Between the schools in sports, academics, and activities, Milford vs Lakeland always get the students and the staffs of both schools riled up.
Milford Psychology teacher, John Oleary says “It’s awesome to see all the kids get so excited and dressed up for the one sporting event against Lakeland.” Oleary also says, “its scary coming in the next day to see how the kids act.”
Yet the students and staff don’t just get “riled” up about sports, the teams get rowdy, and won’t quit until there school gets victory. The events get crazy and everybody wants their school to win, so they get the honor to say they “beat Lakeland or Milford”
Maria Grigg a senior from Milford High school says “It’s awesome knowing that we can say we beat Lakeland in more than three different sports, and it makes me proud to be a part of Milford high school.” Grigg also states that she loves having the recognition over Lakeland.
The students from Milford High School walked down the hallways proud to have victory over Lakeland in at least six sports. Including: hockey, football, wrestling, snowboarding, basketball, and swimming.
Ian Farley, a senior captain for the Lakeland Eagles hockey team, says that he couldn’t believe it was all over after the game against Milford. “We prepared so much for that game to get into playoffs and for Milford to take it away was hard, but they proved they were a good team.” Says Farley. “It was just hard knowing we lost to our rivalry on the seniors last game.”
But surprisingly a lot of students between the schools are friends and they all know each other. Yet when it comes down to Lakeland vs Milford, they all put up there walls and cheer on their own school.
Rocky Pauley, a senior at Lakeland High says, “My best friend goes to Milford, but when we play against each other in a sport, it’s too much fun to get in her face and say I won.” Pauley later states that he does in fact like Milford athletics, but when it comes down to Lakeland vs Milford, he has to stick with his school.
It’s cool seeing the two schools fight for the victory over one another, but it’s also just as cool to see them compete as friends to achieve that victory.
