Milford Bowling
One of the most underrated sports at Milford High School is Bowling. The last couple of years have been very successful for the Mavs bowling squad. After a triumphant season the team made it to regionals. The women’s team was healthy and ready to go, on the other hand one of the members of the men’s team was injured and out for the season.
First let’s talk about the men’s team. They surprised the competition as well as themselves, by how good they competed with other teams in the area. A key bowler for the team was senior Kyle Liedel. A first year player and large contributor to the team. He helped lead the strong Mav’s team to the regional tournament which was placed at Century bowling in Waterford. Unfortunately Liedel tore his ACL days before. Playing gym volleyball he was going up for a monster spike and landed hard. I talked to him the next day and asked him how he thought his team would perform without him, he replied “ It sucks that I got hurt now, it really does but I have tremendous faith in my team and believe they can pull it out.” Kyle was not spot on exactly. No one on the men’s team qualified for states. In the beginning the team was full of strangers but by the end of the season they were a bond of brothers.
Secondly let’s converse about the women’s team. This side of the team gained seven first year players, an extremely high amount. All seven of these players also had an opportunity to bowl on the varsity level, a extraordinary honor for a first year bowler. All of the players I talked to spoke about how much they loved their teammates. The team did not perform as well as they anticipated. The players, including the new teammates were all happy with the season solely because they got to interact with new people. A first year junior bowler, Sam Sajdak said “ We all had a lot of fun together and got to meet new people we never had before.” This may be one of the tightest teams in Milford High School.
The team would be nothing without head Coach Eric Alamat. He is also a first year member to the team, and is a large reason many new kids participated this year. He improved many of the players skills, helping each and every one of them throughout the season. Liedel spoke about how he had once had Alamat as a coach for football and how he was the biggest influence on his decision on joining the bowling team.
That’s your Milford bowling team for the 2014-1015 season. A wide variety of people. All of the players got along with each other for the entire season, which is hard to say for other sports. Overall, the bowling team has been a wonderful experience for all of the student athletes.
