Milford soccer program grows; varsity team off to good start

At the beginning of the 2015 men’s soccer season, Milford turned over a new leaf with their program. For the first time, the Milford soccer program has a men’s freshmen soccer team.

“It’s awesome that the program is growing and that more people are interested in playing soccer,” said Milford Men’s Varsity Soccer Coach Thomas Hipple, who is on his third season at MHS. The Varsity team has also fed off of this new energy, starting the year 6-2.  After a couple of tough losses against powerful Grand Blanc and Brighton squads, the team is in fourth place in KLAA West.

Many of the freshmen are optimistic about the future of the program.

“Being on the first Milford soccer freshman team is really exciting,” said Milford freshman Striker Ciro Rodriguez. “Each win we have, our whole team knows how important the future of Milford Soccer is and we try to become a better team after each loss or even after each win. It’s a good feeling to be playing on this team, and half the time we don’t even realize that we are making history.”

Due to the growth of the program, each team has been improving. The varsity team is going to be very young and will be strong on offense, said Coach Hipple. Many of the players are excited about the team and its leadership as well.

“It’s good. [Hipple] is a fun and nice coach,” said Dante D’aloisio, a midfielder for the varsity team.

This team is very optimistic about the advancements in their program and the future of Milford Soccer.  Their next varsity home game is Sept. 29 when the team hosts Pinckney at 7 p.m. The team beat the Pirates, 1-0, earlier this season.
