One game. One game was all they needed in their last two to win to clinch a spot in the playoffs. In their last two games of the season, they went 0-2. They lost both of them. But they still made the playoffs.

How, you might ask? It is because Boston managed to lay a bigger egg than Detroit did at the end of the season. After beating the Red Wings, 5-2, Boston just needed to take care of business at home against the Ottawa Senators.

But they ended up losing 6-1!

Boston finished out the season going 3-8-1. Out of the 24 points possible to get in these games, they managed to get seven.

The Red Wings are lucky that they managed to keep their 25-year playoff streak going.

In most sports, when it comes down to a tiebreaker, they used the head to head record of the two teams. Whoever has won more games against the other gets the tiebreaker.

With this being said, Boston should have won. But that’s not the tiebreaker that the NHL uses. The first tiebreaker is total wins in regulation and overtime, not including shootouts.

Because of this, the Red Wings clinged to a wild card spot for dear life with having one more win than the Boston Bruins.

¨I’m just relieved that the Wings kept the streak alive¨, said Milford junior, Jaylen Rock. ¨It is crazy to think about the last time someone saw the Red Wings not make the playoffs.¨

Yeah, it’s nice to have this incredible streak continue. But unless they can do something in the playoffs, there’s not much to brag about.
