After after last season’s goalie Vinnie Szerlag graduated, Milford hockey has a new man between the pipes this season in Hunter Bartholomew, who has been playing hockey for 12 years and goalie for 10 of those years.

This season is his first year playing for Milford after playing for a travel team the past couple of seasons.

Bartholomew said it was exciting to play with his teammates. “It’s really cool getting to play with some of my best friends and represent my school and it’s cool getting to play in this environment because I’ve only played travel,” he said.

Last season, while playing for the Kensington Valley Raiders, Bartholomew won the International Silver Stick Midget-A championship, so he has experience playing in big time games in the past. There will be plenty of important games this season for Bartholomew to step up and really prove himself as a great goalie.

Jacob Quinn, a senior defenseman, had nothing but good things to say about Bartholomew.

“He decided to play with us and with Hunter in net, he’s going to be very reliable and helpful. He’s a great goalie and we’ve got a lot of confidence in his ability,” he said.

Bartholomew’s teammates have a lot of confidence and trust that he will be there for them and make the big save when they need him to.

Senior Mitchell Balaka has been playing with Bartholomew the last two seasons and has gained a lot of trust in his goalie on the ice.

Balaka said, “He has shown a lot of improvements over the years and is looking to be very promising  this season.”

With Bartholomew in net, the Mavericks are looking to put last season behind them and have a true bounce back year this season.
