The Huron Valley United Gymnastics team wrapped up their final meet of the season March 12, at the State Finals. After an incredible season, HVU had the opportunity to compete in the Regional Championships at Lakeland, for a spot in the State Championships.

HVU took third place in Region 4 against 10 other teams. The team was led by Ssenior Maeve Spicer, and Jjuniors Ava Bartowski, and Megan Sclabassi.

“I tried not to overwork myself the week leading up to Regionals. It was way less stressful,” said Sclabassi. Sclabassi earned her second highest score on vault and highest score on bars. She placed third on bars and sixth all around, which qualified her for the State Championship as an individual.

Senior Erika Yates was also a top qualifier at Regionals. “(I am) so glad that we came together as a team and worked hard to achieve our goals,” said Yates of the team making States. She also added that some of her favorite memories of this season were simply just dancing with her team.

At the State Championship, HVU saw top routines from Yates, Bartowski, Sclabassi and Spicer. Yates placed ninth on beam and 11th in vault. She attended many summer and preseason practices to achieve her goals.

Congratulations to the HVU Gymnastics team, on reaching new heights and having an incredible championship season!
