Some students of Milford High School took an exciting and adventurous trip with their Spanish teachers. On March, 28th, the six students traveled to Madrid, Spain for 10 days, where they toured the city with their teachers, and then went and met their host family where they stayed with them for 4 nights.
The students got to see a lot of cool things in the city and got to experience a lot of the Spanish culture. Sam Johnson a junior at Milford High School says it was an experience she will never forget. “I got to really learn the Spanish culture, and what Spain was all about.”
Before the students went with their host families, they toured the cities with their fellow students and teachers. Megan Gilman, a sophomore at Milford, says her favorite part was being in the cities. “I loved visiting all of the cities and being able to be around all of that architecture.” The students were able to tour a lot of places that they may have never gotten the chance to see, such as the Royal Palace, a day trip to Segovia, the Flamenco Show, and El Prado. “It was so beautiful and pretty to see and experience.” Says Gilman.
After the students went around the cities with their classmates, they met up with a family who was going to be their host family, someone they stayed with for a period of time, so they can really get the true experience of living in a Spanish household. “Staying with my family was my favorite part. We all got along so well and so easy,” Says Johnson. “They treated me like their own child.”
Johnson went to Spain hoping to get a better understanding of the language, and expecting to eat a lot of delicious food. She said she came back with her hopes answered. “I was never expecting it to be what it was. It was so much more than just what I was expecting.”
Spanish teacher Carrie Pishek was the teacher from Milford High School who chaperoned the trip. She said that the students were expecting a lot. “The family stay is the thing that they are most nervous about but always their favorite.” She explained later they couldn’t wait for the experience. “They couldn’t stop talking about it on the way home. A lot of them said it was hard leaving.” Says Pishek.
Pishek says she enjoys every single trip she takes to Madrid, with every group of kids she goes with. She encourages all students to try to go, and she also makes it easy to go. The total cost of the trip is more or less $3000. That total price includes flight there and back, hotel with breakfast included, welcome dinner, all of the transportation, entrance fees to all of the places, and all of the excursions.
If desired, you can also sign up to be a host family for a student from Spain. Or do you or your student want to experience the fun? All of the information can be found out through Carrie Pishek at [email protected]
