Fairy tale villains go to court

Milford High School made a choice to cut the Play Production class last summer. The kids involved in theater fought to keep the class using #bringbackplaypro on Twitter, to show how much the class is valued and the important skills and community it provides to students.

“Play Pro is a great class to take when you want to be part of a fun, low pressure show. It’s a chance to be creative with friends and have fun,” Said Kasey Julian, a Milford senior and director of the show.

Play Pro gives students interested in all aspects of performing arts the chance to put on their own student run show. Each student performs and is involved in tech work. Every year, there is a student director and stage manager.

“Play pro has given me the opportunity to expand my horizons in theater,” said James Thomason, a Milford senior and the Big Bad Wolf in the production. “I’ve gotten a more encompassed view of putting on a show and what it involves.”

The class teaches students about parts of theater that they hadn’t experienced, as well as independence and responsibility. The class assures that each student is involved in some way.

Now that play pro wasn’t cut, the students are ready to show to everyone the hard work that they have put into this year’s production. They will be performing Fairy Tale Courtroom, a two act show, where classic villains like the Big Bad Wolf and the Wicked Witch of the West go to court.

Julian said, “The show is great and everyone has put a lot of hard work into it. I love having different people with different skill sets because everything gets done.”

The show will be held on April 29 and 30 at 7 p.m. and on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Little Theater of Milford High School. Tickets will be sold at the door for $5 for both students and adults.

Characters like Dorothy and the scarecrow, Little Red Riding Hood and the three little pigs, and the Charming Prince and his princesses will be testifying against the villains.

Each show will end in a different and exciting verdict so come out and see Fairy Tale Courtroom this weekend and support the theater program.
