Bosco sticks are a Milford High School staple. They are served every single day, which means the student body consumes a lot of bosco sticks. But do the students actually enjoy them?
When students at Milford were asked if they liked bosco sticks, they all had a common response. The bosco sticks are a strong hit or miss. “I think the bosco sticks are pretty inconsistent. I haven’t had them too often this year because some days they are very flavorful and have a good texture, but other days they taste very low-quality. I like bosco sticks in general, but I wish there were another brand of bosco sticks that were more consistent and a higher quality.” said senior Allison Hooks.
Some days the bosco sticks have a wonderful texture and are very cheesy, warm, and stretchy, yet other days they can be very dry and contain an oily liquid inside. “I think they taste pretty good, yet are a little too greasy some days. ‘Garlicky,’ for sure, which makes your breath smell. I think the texture is much better when the cheese is warm. When it’s not warm, it just tastes like oily bread.” said senior Ryan Allen.
The one positive conclusion is that some days they are good! When making lunch for hundreds of students, every bosco stick isn’t going to be perfect, yet students are frustrated with the poor quality ones that the school is buying. If they are going to be served bosco sticks every day, shouldn’t they at least taste good every day?
As a student who has frequently bought lunch for the past four years of high school, senior Mia Mayville has developed a strong distaste for the everyday lunch item. “They taste microwaved and freezer burned at the same time,” she said. “I really wish there wasn’t juice in the bosco sticks. It is also unfortunate that they are an option every single day, as opposed to having a more substantial and versatile option.” Students are getting bored of their mediocre everyday lunch item, and it’s time for a change.
