Milford High School’s football team ended the regular season with an amazing 35-29 win against the biggest school rival, Lakeland High School.
This game was full of emotion and excitement by fans and players as everyone wanted to win so badly. The returning senior class was eager to make a comeback this year after experiencing two close losses against the Eagles, including in the playoffs. Junior Quarterback Kaden Johnston-Thompson led the offense with three touchdowns, two completed within the first half.
Senior running back AJ Skonlik had one touchdown to extend the score gap. Senior wide receiver Jack Stine had one touchdown from a 16-yard run with a trick play to test Lakeland’s defense. Sophomore Juliano Iljazi led the defense with 6 tackles, 2 for loss. Milford built a 28-14 lead and held on for the victory in the second half.
With an overall record of 7-2, Milford qualified for the playoffs. The MHSSA Division 2 playoff draw was held on Sunday, Oct. 27. Milford drew a game at East Lansing; unexpectedly, Milford will not have the home-field advantage due to fewer playoff points. Milford will take the trip to the state’s capital to battle in the first round of playoffs on Friday, Nov. 1st.
