With such a close election in November, many people are wondering if this was the most important election in history. Students have varying opinions.
Milford High School Senior Ben Rayner said, “No, this wasn’t really the most important election”.
Senior Cyril Parr agreed. “No, the election of 1860 and 1912 were way more important—1860 because of slavery, 1912 we had Woodrow Wilson elected, who changed U.S foreign policy forever with interventionism.
All elections have importance on our countries’ policies, laws and direction.
According to (cbsnews.com) “ Republicans gained control of the Senate in the 2024 elections.”
“The Republican victory will have major implications for the new administration, bolstering the president’s agenda.
Elected President Trump is expected to be inaugurated on Jan.20th of 2025. According to News Gallup, the economy ranks as the most important out of 22 factors for the presidential election.
This election had the most impact on how people felt and this one will impact the U.S the most in many ways.
“The current 52% of voters rating the economy as an “extremely important” influence on their vote for president is the highest since October 2008 during the Great Recession, when 55% of voters said the same.” This election had the most impact on how policies will go like immigration, different laws and rules impacting public places. The inauguration of Trump, the former president is expected to take place at the White House in Washington D.C on MLK Day.
According to (pbsnews.org) about 4 in 10 voters considered the economy and jobs to be the most important problem facing the country, as frustration with inflation spiking in 2022 lingered in the form of higher grocery, housing and gasoline costs.
Each presidential term usually goes 4 years, though a president could be impeached before that term ends. The president’s term will start on January 20th and it should go until that day in 2028.
Overall, students interviewed did not think this election was the most important, but the decisions Trump makes over the next four years will have an impact on our economy and on many other policies.
